Uddhav Thackeray skips Karnataka, gets busy with Palghar bypoll 24.5.2018 DNA: Urban Tales
Politics make for strange bedfellows. Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray skipped HD Kumarswamy’s swearing-in ceremony in Karnataka on Wednesday to spend time in his own backyard, to take on Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Aditynath in the Palghar by-poll campaign. Despite being allies in Maharashtra, the Sena is pitted against BJP in the Palghar bypolls that are slated for May 28. Former PM and JD(S) leader HD Deve Gowda had called Thackeray on Tuesday and invited him for his son’s oath-taking ceremony. However, Thackeray expressed his inability due to prior engagement.  “Uddhavji told him he was very busy with the Palghar bypoll and hence, would not be able to attend the ceremony. These elections are very important for us,” Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said. Thackeray’s move comes close on the heels of the widening rift between Shiv Sena and BJP. Thackeray, who has already announced party’s decision to go solo in the coming elections, is stepping up attack against PM Modi and CM Devendra Fadnavis. The Sena ...

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today launched a blistering attack on the Shiv Sena and accused the Uddhav Thackeray-led party of "back stabbing" the BJP. He said Sena's actions are contrary to teachings of Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, revered as Hindutva idol by the saffron party. Addressing a campaign rally for the May 28 Palghar Lok Sabha bypoll in Virar, an extended suburb of Mumbai, Adityanath said the country can progress only under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. He targeted bickering alliance partner Shiv Sena for "poking its nose" in the BJP's internal affairs, by fielding late MP Chintaman Wanaga's son Srinivas for the byelection. "The way this party has back-stabbed the BJP by fielding its own candidate...I can say that late Bal Thackeray's soul must be in deep pain and anguish," the Uttar Pradesh chief minister said without taking name of the Sena. He said the victory of BJP candidate Rajendra Gavit would be a "rich tribute" to
