BWSSB flooded with complaints 30.4.2015 deccanherald.com
Heavy rains on Thursday afternoon exposed the civic agencies' unpreparedness and non-maintenance of storm water drains as well as underground drains. The City roads were flooded making it extremely difficult not just for the motorists but also pedestrians who had to walk through small streams flowing on the roads. The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) received over 120 calls with regard to overflowing of manholes and blocked drains mainly in Cox Town, Katriguppe, Jayanagar, Srirampura, Sahakarnagar, Kanakapura Main Road and Peenya Dasarahalli. J Srinivas, a resident of LIC Colony in Jayanagar 3rd Block, said manholes close to his house have been overflowing since Saturday and despite complaining, the Board officials have not addressed the problem. The afternoon rain has worsened the situation with sewage water flowing on the roads making it difficult for the commuters to even walk on the road. Increase height of road median There is a traffic signal at a junction where South End Road and Inner Ring Road near Rajalakshmi Kalyana Mantapa converge. Vehicles coming from Banashankari TTMC side and proceeding towards JP Nagar 1st Phase via Sarakki Main Road have to take a U-turn at this traffic signal. A median towards Banashankari TTMC is very low for some distance and of late two-wheelers, cars and even auto rickshaws have started taking U-turn on the low median instead waiting for signal to turn green. This has become a very dangerous practice because of the high volume of traffic from Jayanagar 5th block side towards Banashankari TTMC and this may lead to accidents. I request the traffic police authorities to immediately raise the height of median to curb the illegal U-turn on the median by the motorists.
